It's almost proverbial these days that, as investment choices go, a car is right up there with stocks in prestigious, third generation American investment banks – not good, that is to say. The second you ease the new car out of the dealer's yard you start losing money, since with the flick of the ignition your car has made the transition from 'new' to 'second-hand'.

What is more I’d swear that the BMW 740i that I was driving a few days before had more mechanical, induction, engine noise than does this 730d sibling!

I’ll be honest, I’ve never really been into the styling of the previous generations of the WRX despite having enormous respect for what Subaru has achieved over the years with this iconic car.
